The Pyrker Collection

Both a longstanding director of the Austrian Film Office and organiser of the Österreichische Filmtage in Wels, Reinhard Pyrker died unexpectedly in 1997 leaving behind him a major archive of contemporary Austrian cinema. This impressive collection includes over a thousand dossiers packed full of material on all Austrian film-makers active since the 1960s (biographical and filmographical selections, press cuttings, photographs, programmes, etc.) as well as scripts, posters, the video collection of the Österreichische Filmtage, an extensive library and various estates. Reinhard Pyrker’s detailed collection can undeniably be credited as having made the serious examination of Austrian cinema of the past forty years possible.
