In 2004, all publishing activities coordinated by the department Film Documentation were brought together under the roof of the Film Archive Austria’s publishing branch. Over 150 publications, many of them award-winning, have earned the Film Archive’s in-house press considerable international prestige. The house’s intense publishing activities reflect the fact that the “silver screen” has long ceased to be the only interface between a film archive and the public.

The Film Archive Austria is dedicated to finding new and innovative ways of presenting the results of the committed work done within its institutional framework. In the FAA’s in-house press the archive’s two core competences, film preservation and film scholarship, combine to yield a broad spectrum of books, DVDs and special editions that demonstrate in exemplary fashion how ambitious film scholarship and engaged archival research can work together harmoniously.
