The poster collection comprises about 16,000 items from a period of more than a hundred years. Among the most interesting contributions to this genre are the graphically ingenious posters that came out of Viennese workshops such as Pollak, Rudolf Vogl, Andreas Ziegler, Trio or Muchsel-Fuchs. Other highlights of the collection include large-format Austrian film posters from the 1920s and 1930s as well as a number of rare posters from the silent era. For many of the posters held by the FAA there are no other copies attested anywhere in the world.
The holdings are continually brought up to date by the acquisition of posters promoting films currently in release in Austria. The collection can be viewed after advance notice at the Audio-Visual Center Augarten’s poster archive. High-quality reproductions are provided on request.
